Insights from artist Michaela Gleave
Meet Michaela Gleave, a lauded contemporary artist based in Sydney who exhibits across Australia and internationally. She is ever-inspiring and ingenious at realising her creative ideas, and balancing her business and arts priorities.
Michaela creates some incredible art experiences, across digital and online, installation and performance, photography, sculpture and video practices.
I'm thrilled to have spoken with Michaela about her practice and her business. She shares some insights about her approach to strategy and managing time, being brave in business and true to your own practice, and making work solo and in collaboration with others.
Over the years, I've been so fortunate to work together with Michaela and to enjoy some creative adventures (like running Firstdraft gallery, sharing studios and co-creating exhibitions).
During this interview, Michaela was preparing A Galaxy of Suns to be presented at the 2018 Melbourne Festival. She collaborated with artists Amanda Cole and Warren Armstrong, and with astronomer Dr Michael Fitzgerald and a 36-part choir to sing the stars as they rise and set over the horizon. If you couldn't make it to the live performance, you can also experience the artwork via the app!
I've featured a few of Michaela's artworks here and you can find lots more on her website www.michaelagleave.com.
Thanks Michaela for this great interview and looking forward to next experience your creations!
